Durga's TridentVanakam, Namaste and Blessings to All. The Energies of Goddess Durga are powerfully represented by a Grand Fire Trine involving (Juno in Leo, Uranus Retrograde in Aries and Vesta in Sagittarius). Juno opposes The Aquarian Moon, making this a powerfully focused Kite Alignment. Here’s what each component brings to the table:

Juno (8 Leo) – The energy of the Soulmate, particularly through a child or a romantic partner, teaches you a lesson in self-expression, the need for authenticity and ultimately a reconnection with the Sacral Creativity of the Feminine.

Vesta (12 Sag) – The archetype of Priest/ess or Spiritual Facilitator is called to Serve. We are drawn to Paths which involve an expansion of the way we see ourselves and our Spiritual Journeys. (Note that Vesta is squared Chiron Retrograde in Pisces indicating this this journey comes with the lessons of the Wounded Healer who learns and Transcends. Those with placements at 12-13 Gemini or Virgo will feel this as a Mutable T-Square and/or Grand Mutable Cross)

Uranus Rx (12 Ari) – Uranus Retrograde in Aries facilitates this energy of awakening, often through perceived ‘errors’ in communication or perception, and/or in an abrupt form. As we awaken to the Truth of who we Are (i.e. Pure, Creative, Radiant Spirit), we will radically alter our embodiment of Self – the way we carry, represent, assert and simply exist as individuals in our own rights, entitled to our own spaces.

Moon (in Aquarius) – Emotional attachments to ideas of who you are, what you know and your connection with Spirit will be highlighted. Conditioned, ego-based understandings of this are likely to be challenged now. A gateway bridging deep internal intuition with the ability to receive guidance directly from Source is created. Harness this energy wisely and remember to stay grounded in case things get too spacey! Your mother/parental figure embodying the Mother archetype may act as a catalyst in communicating insights or information which allows you to access the energies of this Trident-like configuration.

The Kite began at 9:07 am Oct 31st and lasts till 2:43 am, Nov 1st (GMT + 8). The Grand Fire Trine began at 6:32 pm Oct 25th and will end at 6:15 am Nov 15 (GMT + 8) – in its current form, involving Vesta. The Grand Fire Trine itself ends at 6:11 pm, Dec 14 2014.

Those with astrological placements at/near BOTH 8 Libra and 8 Gemini will experience this as a phenomenal GRAND SEXTILE. Placements at or near 10 Virgo / 12 Cancer will form Yods to Uranus/Moon or Moon/Vesta sextiles. (As these bodies shift in the skies, so too would those hypothetical spots.)

Further kites with the Moon will be formed on November 9 and November 19 (albeit it will be Ceres – The Goddess Asteroid of Nurture – rather than Vesta involved in a different Grand Fire Trine).

So, what does it all mean?

This is a powerful Fire Trine which encourages us to light the three beacons which will ignite our collective Re-Awakening, Re-cognition and Re-turn of the Feminine Principle.

Shakti’s Rising, in other words.

– Self – Path of Service – Sacral Reconnection – Creation – Passion – Embodiment – The Next Step of The Journey … Begins!

A more Cosmic Level of Awakening is possible due to the Moon’s opposition with Juno – creating a focal point for all of this energy.

We also are called to re-connect with the Primordial Energies of the Earth (Bhumadevi, Gaia-Sophia, etc.) as per your spiritual heritage and to discover how Earth energies connect with the Sky/Cosmos. See how they ultimately mirror one another and teach us the same things, albeit through different ‘directions’. This can be bring life-changing perspective where Heaven and Earth no longer exist as polar opposites, but as complements and reflections of each other.

And what a day for it! Hindu temples are celebrating their monthly prayers to Goddess Durga on Ashtami Day. Pagans/Wiccans/Witches/Celtic Spiritualists and others are celebrating Samhain. Loads of people are celebrating Halloween. North Indian temples are celebrating Gopalashtami – a day of devotion towards Lord Krishna and the sacred cow.

In short – I would summarize this Kite/Grand Fire Trine with the GSS ( The Goddess, The Serpent and The Sea: Building Pathways of Light.) motto:

Much Love to you on this Durgashtami Day

Jai Maa!

Mercury is still in a half-state from its recent retrograde. Communications, perceptions, mental activity of any kind is likely to be somewhat stalled or delayed for many at this time – in contrast to their usual selves. On the surface, whilst this may appear to be a ‘slowdown’ of sorts, in fact, Mercury is still making it’s journey back upwards through the Netherworld/Underworld of the psyche (the place where it goes each Retrograde – as the only Olympian god to be able to traverse the three worlds in Greco-Roman mythology). I like to see it as Mercury still processing things from ‘down below’ before it is ready to truly move out of that phase. Look back to the past few weeks to see what Mercury may be helping you process at such a deep, deep level.

The Mercury/North Node conjunction occurs at 7:11 am October 30 2014 (GMT + 8). They are also conjunct asteroid 1181 Lilith (17 Lib), Toro (19 Lib) and Typhon (19 Lib). All these bodies indicate powerful expressions of emotion or raw power, particularly to do with the Suppressed Feminine and archetypes linked with the Under/Netherworld. We are also asked to consider the right or proper use of power and force through the vessel of the voice, the mind, speech, analysis and all forms of communication.

Mercury/North Node will also be squared with the Moon at (21 Cap ’25) when the conjunction occurs, which in turn squares the South Node at 18 Ari ’16). It will be a Cardinal Nodal T-Square with the apex (focus) at the Moon in Capricorn.

The focus on the Moon signifies the potential for emotional stress deriving from a sense of duty, responsibility or a need to achieve something – and also the potential for a breakthrough in these areas. Those with placements at or near 18-20 Cancer will experience this as a Cardinal Nodal Grand Cross.

So with a foot in each world, Mercury now faces the full force of the North Node in a powerful Cardinal Nodal T-Square. We are challenged to walk our talk in the direction of our greatest growth, which may entail substantial difficulty.

The North Node is uncompromising and fully focused upon exploring ‘uncharted territory’ through new avenues of experience and pathways for growth in Libra-related areas: relationships, partnerships, justice, fairness, aesthetics, social harmony, detached judgment, etc. It’s asking you to make key decisions in the way you relate with other people, and the role you ascribe to yourself (and others) in partnerships. Self is just as important as Other, and Other is just as important as Self – it’s not an invitation to sacrificing your identity to keep the peace or trampling all over someone else’s just so you can do as you please.

Also remember that relationships are reflections upon our state of harmony and balance within ourselves and with the wider Cosmos. In some cases, you might not be able to repair a past relationship, and sometimes, walking away may be the best thing you can do.

Be careful of adopting a position of avoidance or denial. There may be some things that you can absolutely do, even with Mercury in this half-state. Look at what makes you feel the most _uncomfortable_ (but not violated / hurt / etc. ) in changing a particular relationship dynamic that may have come under scrutiny in recent weeks. And remember – ‘comfort’ – isn’t the same for everyone – people do get ‘comfortable’ even in unpleasant circumstances because they have adapted to it and consider it ‘normal’. In cases like these, moving towards healthier way of relating may feel like having to walk on hot coals.

Other Astrological Notes:

Mercury/North Node are in a Wedge formation, sextiling Jupiter (20 Leo 11) and opposing Uranus Rx (13 Ari ’39) / South Node. (Jupiter of course trines Uranus) In this configuration, Jupiter acts as a pivot point and can be a useful point to refocus one’s energies.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed – Engage in creative works, playing with kids, getting in touch with one’s inner child, falling in love, spending time with the love of your life – anything that reconnects you with what you enjoy! (And it’s a good general piece of advice in any case)

Those with astrological placements at or near 20 Aquarius will feel this as a Mystic Rectangle (which gives you the option of creating a stable pattern of harmony/balance, or a sense of being ‘confined/enclosed). Individuals with placements at or near 18-20 Pisces will feel this as a powerful, Karmic, Yod/Finger of Fate that pushes you to make a key life-decision of some kind.

Blessings to All,

Mars Challenge

Mars represents our ability to assert ourselves and act upon our desires. It is stereotypically linked with masculine or ‘yang’ energy and the animus (male aspect of one’s psyche). You find Mars energy in all beings, not just ‘men’. It is linked with our fundamental drives towards the gratification or acquisition of our desires and yearnings. In astrology, it can also refer to one’s male/masculine romantic partner. Mars entered the sign of Capricorn at 6:27 pm, Oct 26 and will remain there until 7:41 am, December 5, 2014 (GMT + 8).

Capricorn is the Cardinal Earth sign – it represents the pinnacle of material manifestation within the zodiac. Capricorn is traditionally ruled by Saturn and is linked to the 10th house cusp / Mid-heaven. This position is often interpreted to mean one’s career – but it goes above and beyond that meaning.

Capricorn is the Tomb (as the Sun enters Capricorn closest to the Winter Solstice) from which the Earth resurrects itself. It is also the energy of the long-suffering mountain goat which reaches the lofty summit that few other living things dare to approach owing to its disciplined hardiness and focused dedication. It is also the material pinnacle of manifestation that creates the Bridge or Gateway to Aquarian energies.

When I explain the energy of Capricorn to my clients, I call it the energy of ‘The Tombstone’. In some cultures, when we pass away, we are buried and all that remains of us (above ground) is summarized in a few lines on one’s tombstone. Who we were, what we did, what legacy we left behind for future generations. It is the sum of all that we were, in the public eye eye, and the kind of reality we (as architects) left behind for others to inhabit.

This is an energy which looks at the larger picture, and – when awakened – selflessly focuses its ambitions and discipline to creating material structures which will out-last the architect/engineer who made them. We associate Capricorn with the most powerful and authoritative forms of governance and institutions which wield power over us – with VIPs and other elites – anyone or anything that has ‘power’.

The more common manifestation of Capricornian energy would be to use all that discipline and focus to create self-serving structures – ultimately to be recognized as being powerful / authoritative / established by society. In the worst case scenario – as we have been seeing all around us – the desire for recognition is sometimes pursued without thought of consequence, morality, ethics or charity. Such actions we recognize as the abuse of elite authority by individuals and/or institutions.

We’ve already been seeing a powerful overhaul and a ‘calling to account’ of regimes and institutions that have abused this energy. This is due to the transit of Pluto through Capricorn, along with the revolutionary effects of the Uranus-Pluto square. In the lives of individuals, we’ve begun to see a collective shift towards a work culture that transcends a traditional obsession with Profit, Prestige and Status. We see more and more institutional cultures adapting to the idea that work can be done for the sake of fulfilling one’s passion, or of creating a common good/legacy for others to use (I see this expressed through the prevalence of Open-Source materials, e.g. Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, OpenOffice, the Creative Commons Distribution License, etc. ). We’ve also begun to see how governments and regimes are increasingly under scrutiny with the availability of such technologies – and how they can be used to inspire change (e.g. Arab Spring).

It’ll take us a while to see the full effects of the Uranus-Pluto square on transforming our manifestation of Capricornian energy -but let’s get back to Mars in Capricorn.

Mars in Capricorn is …. well … powerful. It has the drive to achieve anything it wants, to climb the social ladder as high as it wants – without restraint. When harnessed from a position of Spirit can manifest the creation of material structures, power relationships, etc which can benefit humanity greatly. Individuals can find ways to focus upon their careers and truly amp up their performance in their workplace, all cylinders fired and ready to go!

However, when harnessed from a position of Insecurity – where Capricorn seeks to achieve – to build a legacy in the public eye – because it fears insignificance — this same energy can be used in a very blunt, brutish manner in the belief that ‘the ends justify the means’.

Our earlier discussion on Pluto in Capricorn is particularly relevant to this Mars transit as Mars will remain in a 7 degree orb of conjunction with Pluto between 4:43 pm November 1, 2014 – 7:41 pm November 20, 2014 (GMT + 8) – nearly three weeks!

The exact conjunction takes place at 6:31 am, November 11, 2014 at 11 Cap ’35. Mars/Pluto will sextile Chiron (13 Pis ’11) and both will form a Mega-Yod to Juno (12 Leo ’02). This will most likely be the most intense Yod of 2014. A Nodal T-Square involving Mars/Pluto, Uranus Rx and The Moon in Cancer will also be in effect at the same time.

More on that closer to the date.

So taken together, we’ve discussed the amazing potential of Mars in Capricorn, along with the spiritual challenge of learning to harness the drive to achieve, build legacies, etc. in alignment with Spirit. When the Mars/Pluto contact occurs, we will also be faced with the choice of how we use this energy – with integrity? without mercy? with empathy?

That’s your choice to make, come Nov 11th.

Blessings to All,

Blessings. Current astrological aspects in the sky are intensifying our experience of the spiritual and otherworldly realms, represented by the energy of Neptune Retrograde at 4 Pisces. We are collectively being asked to awaken to and transcend whatever illusory preconceptions we may have to do with our spiritual journeys and ourconnection with Spirit. We are asked to expand into spaces of Love wherein labels, boundaries and forms struggle to exist as independent entities in the Cosmic Ocean of One-ness. This can be a fantastic, transcendental experience for those seeking dissolution for spiritual purposes, but it can equally manifest as the ‘loss’ of key identities or parts of the self, particularly through the violation of boundaries. How it manifests for you depends upon how you work with Neptune’s energy, particularly in Retrograde – rather than creating a beautiful illusion – it takes no prisoners and smashes down old structures of perception that are no longer in alignment with your evolving spiritual consciousness. I liken this energy to that of a tsunami, powerfully crashing down onto the ground and tearing apart anything not strong enough to withstand its might. (It’s not quite like Pluto – but it can be just as powerful, albeit in different ways).

Artists, visionaries, spiritualists, lovers of life – anyone – who can harness the energy of Neptune Retrograde may find their creative works illuminated with the vibration of Truth, that can only come from Source. You may be amazed at what you are able to channel and create at this time (but remember to stay grounded as best you can). So let’s get to the trine itself:

Venus represents many things – femininity, the anima (female aspect of psyche in all beings), our material value systems, our structures of evaluation/judgement, our sense of balance, aesthetics, our love of sensuality and embodiment, romance, relationships, and so on. In Scorpio, at her best, Venus allows us to find regeneration, healing and transformation through relationships and partnerships, particularly those that involve intimacy and/or the merger of resources (be it in personal and/or professional life) – to paraphrase Gargatholil. It’s also a time were our value systems are likely to be dominated by the presence of ‘power’ – so we need to pay attention to how we respond to situations wherein we perceive an imbalance of power between ourselves and others. Will domination be your response? Power sharing? submission? all of the above? Or something else?

The Sun represents our vital engine, so to speak. Some call it the ‘Soul’ of a person, but it might be more accurate to think of it as the most prominent aspect of a soul’s consciousness as it engages in this present incarnation. Think of it as the magnifying lens that can focus the Sun’s Rays from millions of light years away onto a single piece of paper, making it burn. In the same way, the Sun’s position focuses and magnifies the influence of whatever sign it is in. In Scorpio, our active energies are focused upon matters of depth, penetration, intimacy, power, emotional security, control, ‘getting to the heart of things’, and so on. Scorpio is a complex sign, and for those who want an overview of its energy, visit – http://wp.me/p4OUNS-8Z .

So with The Sun and Venus trine Neptune Rx, what we get is effectively a powerful energetic portal connection two deep Water Signs, Scorpio and Pisces. These open portals to your personal and the collective unconscious respectively. You will be greatly facilitated on your spiritual journeys and paths at this time – but it’s going to happen differently for everyone. Some people are going to enjoy the ride and learn to transcend their own egos and allow themselves to see What Truly Is, whereas, others may be at risk of focusing upon the less wanted kind of ‘dissolution’ – in the form of self-destruction rather than self-transcendence.

Neptune is also associated with the less desirable ‘loss of self’ through substance abuse, addictions, dysfunctional relationship patterns (codependency) – even suicide. If you have these tendencies, it’s best to surround yourself with supportive people who can be there for you at this time.

With Venus involved, it’s very likely that the vehicle of the flow of this powerful spiritual energy will be through your sense of femininity/acknowledgement of the Feminine principle, through the vehicle of a significant relationship. Those who are in partnerships on established ground may find this energy beautiful, uplifting and truly inspirational – a way to let the boundary of Self and Other come down as you find spiritual and sacred union with one another.

Those in less stable dynamics may play out the victim-abuser roles, codependent behaviors, controlling dynamics (through the facade of martyrdom), etc. Be wary of this – as the desire to ‘merge’ and ‘dissolve’ into another may be there, but for reasons to do with escapism and denial of your own needs/self/authenticity – as opposed to going further on your path.

At 2:53 am, 28th October 2014 (GMT + 8), Venus in Scorpio will trine Neptune Retrograde (4 Pis ’55). Later in the day, at 5:42 pm, The Sun will also trine Neptune Rx (4 Pis ’54). Both Venus and The Sun are sextiled Mars, which has just entered the sign of Capricorn (6:27 pm, Oct 26). Mars, in turn, sextiles Neptune Retrograde.

Those with astrological placements at or near 0-4 degrees Gemini will experience this as a POWERFUL yod connecting the Masculine, the Feminine and The Awakened aspect of the Soul (The Sun), and whatever point it will apex towards. (Exciting times!)

Another significant shift occurring around this time is that of Ceres into Sagittarius at 9:31 am (Oct 28) – more on that (and Mars) in another post.

Blessings and Love to All. I hope this information will guide you through a time of great intensity and awakening.

In the wake of the Scorpio Eclipse, many of us have had profound revelations of truth. Some of these truths have been joys to receive, and others have been heartbreaking. The experiences I’ve been hearing about (and witnessing) have been mixed – but in all cases, they are profound indicators of where we need to be headed, what needs to be repaired – and what ultimately needs to be detached from.

Those of you who have experienced this in a joyful way – continue to ride the high vibes of Spirit. You’re going to begin your spiritual journeys in powerful, new ways!

For for those you who have been at the rough end of the karmic roller-coaster ride – those who are now grieving, feeling lost, hurt, or disappointed with others – I am hoping my words will be of some guidance, and hopefully, a salve for aching hearts. Ultimately, you too are heading to new shores and destinations, even if doesn’t feel that it could possibly be the case!

Trust that this too is a key part of your movement towards Wholeness, towards Spirit.

Some of have seen the ‘eclipsing’ or phasing out of old relationships – with friends, family, partners – others may have even experienced this as a ‘death’. Some may have manifested the Eclipse energy as a call for you settle your emotional, spiritual and other debts – bringing yourselves back in the clear.

Whatever the situation is, chances are its out of your control. All that remains in your control is how you respond or react to whatever has come to pass.

Try to remember that another person’s reactions, perceptions and actions are not yours to control. You can’t change the way a person chooses to act or behave, even if they choose to avoid the best path for their own growth.

Some of you will have felt the ending of close relationships, and the loss of friends – often through a dramatic ‘culmination’ – or death, if you will. It lead to intense feelings of grief, even without a ‘physical’ death.

The relationship may be reached ‘the point of no return’, in which both parties have to either revisit their perceptions and expectations of each other and begin anew. This requires both parties to let for, forgive, and accept this ending.

Some time may need to pass before this first step to reconciliation can begin – however – in some cases, this may not be possible.

For those in this situation, whilst you’re processing your emotions, grieving, letting them out ( be it through words or tears, or both), as you let yourself ‘flow’ — try to cultivate a parallel sense of spiritual detachment. Know that this too shall pass, and that endings are part of the natural cycle of Life and its Seasons (joy, sorrow, neutrality, birth, death, rebirth, and so on).

It may take some time for a sense of ‘normality’ to be found once more- not something that will just happen overnight. As you rebuild the foundations of whatever has been lost or swept away (which will of course involve parts of you), seek to rebuild on a foundation of Truth.

Blessings to all,

Blessings Everyone! The Mercury Retrograde ends today! Over the next few weeks, we will be revisiting decisions, communications, negotiations we made in partnerships and relationships with others. We will have the chance to make amends in situations which can (and ought to be) repaired, and the opportunity to find new approaches to move past old obstacles. Mercury Stations Direct at 12:28 pm (GMT + 8) at 16 Lib ’48.

Here’s a Head’s Up: At 7:11 am, Oct 30, Mercury will conjunct the North Node for the final time this year at 18 Libra ’16, activating a Nodal (Karmic) T-Square with Pluto and Uranus Retrograde. This will be a key opportunity to use the information you gathered during the Retrograde Period to work on some aspect of your relationships/partnerships/contracts or other negotiations.

Today, we’re also feeling the effects of Mars at the Anaretic Degree (i.e. 29 degrees) of Sagittarius. The lessons we have learnt from the ‘Action/Assertion’ planet in this sign to do with our sense of expansion, adventure, travel, higher education, philosophical understandings, Path in life, and our relationships with our Teachers/Gurus will be heightened. At 6:27 pm, October 26, Mars will move into the sign of the Sea-Goat, i.e. Capricorn.

At 10:38 pm, later today, Ceres will enter the 29th (Anaretic) degree of Scorpio. Here the Goddess Asteroid of Nurture (showing us how we best give and receive nurturing energy) is revisiting the lessons of her stay in the Scorpionic Underworld. Ceres or Demeter is the Goddess of the Harvest, of verdant abundance, of agriculture and the bounties of the Earth.

She is the mother of Persephone, the maiden who is abducted, raped and instated as the Queen of the Underworld by Hades/Pluto. The mother manages to secure 6 months out of 12 in the year where her daughter is free to roam the earth – the remaining months cause her mother to lament. The world experiences her grief and joy through the seasons: spring/summer (joy), autumn/winter (grief) or the simpler divisions of fruitful/unfruitful agricultural seasons (associated with Ceres) . Ceres moves into Sagittarius at 9:31 am, October 28.

The energy of Nurture, represented by Ceres, is focused upon the Deepest Moment of Darkness (Scorpio). We may find healing self/others by engaging in deep emotional catharsis and exploration as nurturing at this time. Physical touch and intimacy with a loved one can also bring us this sense of deep fulfillment. Others may fulfill Ceres’ longings through an exploration of the occult and the Deeper Mysteries it represents. As with all things, there is a balance called for in this placement – to ensure that the recipient of your healing, touch, explorations, etc. is firstly willing and able to participate in the process. Boundaries and the right use of power must be managed, particularly in parent-child relationships (owing to the Ceres-Persephone-Underworld connection).

On top of that, at 6:32 pm later today – we see the start of a Grand Fire Trine between Uranus Retrograde (13 Ari), Juno (6 Leo) and Vesta (9 Sag), whose effects will begin to build from this time. More on that in the days to come.

We’ve got other powerful influences already operating in the sky right now. Strongest of all is the aftermath of the Scorpio Solar Eclipse (see http://wp.me/p4OUNS-au for full article).

Blessings to All,

SOLAR ECLIPSE, 0 SCO ’25, 5:56 am, October 24 2014 (GMT + 8)

Blessings everyone, it’s been an overwhelming Eclipse at 0 degrees Scorpio. I’m going to give you the gist of it without going into too much detail.

The Sun, Moon, Venus and Pallas Athena (all between 0-2 Scorpio) focus our awareness, emotions, desires/perceptions, strategy and convictions upon Scorpio. Scorpio represents the mysteries of life, death and rebirth. It relates to the way we engage with our personal and collective Underworld. It calls our karma to task and holds all accountable in its wake. The power and magnetism of Scorpio can both heal and regenerate, penetrate and awaken – just as it can be used to manipulate, overpower and destroy. (For an intro to Scorpio’s energy, see – http://wp.me/p4OUNS-8Z )

At 0 degrees, we are given the opportunity to ‘reset the karmic balance’ as it were and find new ways of harnessing this potent, transformative energy.

Given the North Node (18 Libra) /Mercury Rx (16 Libra) conjunction in Libra right now, it feels as though the events unleashed by this Eclipse directly relate to past karma in terms of partnerships, collaborations, and your relationships.

Looking at where 0 Scorpio (the degree of the Eclipse) lies in your chart can shed some light as to how you are likely to have felt/feel its effects. Remember, you can check this out at www.astro.com by drawing up a free chart for yourselves.

1st House – Self, Sense of Identity, Physical Body (Health + Appearance)
2nd House – Connection with Abundance (Material, Emotional), Sense of Nurture
3rd House – Relationship with Siblings, Perceptions, Communications
4th House – Family Matters, especially related to the Mother, Mother-Goddess Connection
5th House – Matters of the Heart, Romance, Creativity, Children, Sacral Energies
6th House – Work, Health, Routines, your Material Path of Service
7th House – Partnerships in Marriage and Business, The Shadow Self
8th House – Sex, Death, Taxes, the Intimate Partner, the Occult
9th House – Higher Education, Travel, Philosophy, The Teacher/Guru/Guide
10th House – Career, Status, Legacy, Social Prestige, Achievement, Authority, Recognition
11th House – Friendships, Altruism, Charity, Networking, Electronic Media, Individuality, Mental Breakthroughs/Breakdowns
12th House – Transcendental Spirituality, Dissolution, Compassion, Martyrdom, Lack of Forms, Lack of Boundaries

This Eclipse Stellium in Scorpio (Moon, Sun, Venus, Pallas Athena) is also trined Neptune Retrograde at 4 Pisces (the planet of Inspiration, Dissolution and Transcendence). The powerful Scorpio-Pisces connection can either lift you to new heights in your understanding of the Subconscious and its link with Spirit. It can also uncover subjects that are ‘taboo’, ‘messy’, ‘ugly’ (in our perceptions) at the same time. Tremendous truths, exploding as powerful emotional revelations are very possible at this time. For those who use the Tarot, I would link this energy with the symbol of ‘The Tower’ – the letting loose of old order, structures that were known come tumbling down.

A very Kali-esque energy…

Whether this is a ‘negative’ cascading of events or a ‘positive’ one depends on many factors – which house the Eclipse occurs in, whether it involves karmic dynamics larger than yourself (e.g. within families, organizations, societies, etc.), even your attitude or mode of perception in response to it. The Eclipse Stellium also makes a quintile (energy of manifested creativity) with Jupiter (The Guru, Blessings, Abundance) in Leo. Come what may, there is a lesson for you to be learnt and growth to be manifested. There is a silver cloud through all the drama and crisis that this Scorpio eclipse can bring – it may be more obvious for some, depending on their circumstances.

In addition to this, the Eclipse Stellium is also squared Juno at 6 Leo, which in turn is inconjunct Neptune Retrograde. This means that the events which trigger the Neptune Rx-Eclipse stellium connection are likely to be prompted by a figure in your life who represents the energies of Leo – it could be a romantic partner, a child, someone whom you hold very close to your heart. Those with astrological placements at or near 4 Capricorn will feel this as potentially a life-changing yod or Finger of Fate. Another potential yod is formed with placements at or near 6 Libra.

My hope is that we individually and collectively learn from this Eclipse as best we can and find ways to healing and transcending old wounds – to quote my mentor. Astrologically, we see this as a powerful opposition made by the Eclipse Stellium and 1992 QB 1 (a Trans-Neptunian Object) at 1 Taurus. 1992 QB 1 represents our ability to go past the boundary of death, the fear associated with Pluto (and therefore Scorpio’s energies, for more info see http://1992qb1.com/ ) – and the powerful ideological shift that collectively needs to take place for this kind of Transcendence to occur.

It is literally stepping past the threshold of the old, and into the New.

Blessings and Love to All,
Priestess Bairavee Balasubramaniam, PhD

No matter how deep the friendship, how passionate the love, how powerful the connection – No One – has the right to cross your boundaries – and by the same token, nor do you have the right to cross Another’s. Unless there is the express invitation or consent given to do so, and all relevant parties consciously accept.

I suspect this will be an issue coming up with the Moon’s conjunction with the North Node and Mercury Rx in Libra. This energy opposes Uranus Rx/South Node in Aries – both of which square Pluto in Capricorn making a T-Square.

Do not be afraid to set your foot down with someone who is overstepping their mark. By the same token, treat others as you would wish to be treated and choose not to invade another’s sense of boundaries. Unless you have been ill-treated or the recipient of unjust behavior – it’s not the best time to be commenting, passing judgment on or making e/valuations of other people and their lives (particularly their careers/work).

Libra teaches us the need for healthy boundaries and the North Node (in this sign) challenges us to find a way to both define and maintain what they are. You do not need to be meek, silent, or acquiescent of someone overstepping the mark just to remain in their good books. That is a choice you can make, of course, but consider its implications. Try your level best to avoid passive-aggressive behavior and/or adopting a persona of victimhood if the other party calls you up on it.

Be very wary of projection dynamics, at this time, especially with Mercury Rx’s role in the whole thing.

The South Node in Aries tells us to draw strength from our sense of self-assertiveness and to be unafraid of saying I …do not like x, y, or z. It warns us not to give into a sense of isolated superiority, or the idea that you can pretty much ‘charge’ into anyplace/anyone’s sense of space without consequence.

Uranus, nearby the South Node, tells us that this is an opportunity to gain higher awareness of the kind of self-assertiveness that you can draw on now. The circumstance triggering this is likely to be an abrupt, unexpected one – not a ‘pleasant’ surprise for most. It is likely to arise through some form of electronic communication, potentially from a friend group, association or a network for charitable/altruistic acts.

Pluto – the energy of Crisis-through-Transformation in Capricorn indicates these energies to fixate upon some understanding of one’s career, legacy, understanding of ‘success’ and ‘achievement’. Issues around authority and work may be the ‘battleground’ upon which these energies play out their drama.

Try to be kind, try to be patient if it’s an innocent case of mis-perception. But if someone is seriously taking you for a ride, well… speak up. Know that some individuals will start something up out of the blue – and you are well within your right to simply not engage with them. You do not have to play that role.

Not the most pleasant of energies to deal with – maintain your integrity as best you can. These are karmic lessons you’ve been working on for some time now.

I’ve saved the best news for last. The Moon/Merc Rx/North Node sextiles Jupiter, Jupiter trines Uranus/South Node, creating a ‘Wedge’ Formation. This indicates a potential for healing a situation of crisis by turning to the energy of Jupiter in Leo. Leo, of course, deals with our ability to be truly ourselves – to acknowledge the beauty, authenticity and vulnerability of the Self. It asks us to Express who we are, be it through words, dance, art, creative endeavors. It indicates a potential teacher in the form of a romantic partner or child who can give you perspective on the situation you face.

The Moon’s role in the activation of this T-Square and Wedge will be present until 1:45 pm, October 23, GMT + 8.

What is Deepavali? When is it? Why is it celebrated? I’ll start with the When, and Weave in the What, the Why and the Who. The origins of Deepavali/Diwali are steeped in Hindu mythology and have been generally read as ‘the triumph of Light over Darkness’ often in a bloody form (as per myth). I’ll be showing you some artwork depicting scenes of that as well. I honestly wanted to write you a much more cuddlier piece, but I decided to go for a more authentic approach.

There are two different ways to calculate when Deepavali/Diwali is celebrated. One calculation places it on Chaturdasi day, the day before the New Moon (Amavasai/Amasya). And another places it on the New Moon itself. Because of this difference in interpretation, there are two separate dates given for the celebration of this festival, in accordance with regional customs: Oct 22nd and Oct 23rd 2014. According to http://publicholidays.in/diwali-deepavali/, 10 states in India celebrate it on October 22nd, whereas 23 states celebrate it on October 23rd.

As an astrologer I can see how both traditions differ, and I can also see the symbolism with each choice. October 22nd is Naraka Chaturdashi – the day that a demon known as Narakasura/Narakasuran was defeated. This is the rationale given for the celebration of Deepavali in the South. In the North, Diwali is celebrated to honor the day that Lord Rama (an avatar of Lord Mahavishnu) rescued his wife Lady Sita from the (Sri) Lankan (i.e. Tamil) ruler, the ten headed King Ravanan/Ravana.

King Ravanan was a powerful, intelligent, and wise king – an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, an accomplished musician and composer of the Shiva Tandava Strotam. Whilst all this is in the original text of the Ramayana – it’s almost completely forgotten in the way the Ramayana is remembered and re-enacted in ritual performances today.

There are complex and deeply rooted racial divides that get projected onto this narrative, which is probably why it’s not as popular in the South of India, but more so in the North of India. What the ancients intended, I cannot say for sure without further research, but sadly, it has been taken in a divisive way.

How do I see it? Well… Unfortunately, the North-South divide is part of racial memory, and people do hold on it. Not everyone, but it’s not inconsequential either. Holding onto the past will serve no one, and it will certainly not serve those who are cast as ‘demons’ who are then vanquished.

If you look at the depiction of Narakasuran (the other ‘defeated asura’) in the New Indian Express (an Indian newspaper) below, you’ll see him depicted with a body that that is (stereotypically seen as) Southern Indian, particularly Tamil (i.e. the pot belly, dark skin, abundance of curly body hair) in contrast to his mother Satyabhama (visibly of a different body type, skin colour, etc.). The same stereotyping is present even in temples – have a look at the ‘asuras’ which the Gods and Goddesses destroy and vanquish and you’ll see what I mean. Those more familiar with Tamil traditions will notice ancient Gods such as Muniswaran/Sangili Karupan sharing similar characteristics.

There are visible exceptions as when Goddess Kali is shown in Her Beautiful Blackness as is Lord Krishna whose name literally means ‘The Dark One’. More often than not, they are shown in different hues.

[Racially stereotyped depiction of Narakasuran about to be shot by his mother Satyabhama]

What do I think of all this? Well, whilst I am a proud Tamil, I do incorporate aspects of the Vaishnavite tradition I am comfortable with and have also made pilgrimages to sacred sites in that tradition. In retrospect, I went to a Perumal (Krishna) temple just earlier today and prayed in the Spirit of Deepavali. Personally, I see these racial projections as collective wounds that are in need of healing and transcending, instead of furthering and deepening the hurt – a theme which I believe is integral to the ‘Festival of Lights’.

Having said that, let’s turn back to Narakasuran and why (especially in the South) his ‘defeat’ is celebrated as part of Deepavali/Diwali celebrations.

Narakasuran is a complex figure in Hindu mythology. He is the asura (demon) son of Varaha (the Boar Avatar of Lord Vishnu) and Bhumadevi (Earth Goddess). In one narrative, he is shown to be a a powerful being who sought to conquer all and who kidnapped and mistreated women. (There are some parallels with his portrayal and that of King Ravanan of Lanka).

At times his death/defeat comes at the hands of Lord Krishna, and at others, by the hand of his outraged mother, Satyabhama (an avatar of the Earth Goddess). Either way, it’s a bloody, graphic death. Lord Krishna’s discus (chakram) slices him in two, or his mother shoots him in the heart with an arrow. In the present day, effigies are built of Narakasuran, which are then burnt during Deepavali – to ritually enact the triumph of ‘Good’ over ‘Evil’.

[Death by discus, cleaved in two]

[Death by discus, decapitation]

You might wonder why I’m showing you these images – but honestly – this event is what Deepavali celebrates. The Defeat of the Asura, be it Narakasuran or King Ravana.

Personally, the way asuras are depicted and written into Hindu mythology makes me question whether ‘demon’ (as is understood in the Western context) is a fair description of who they are and how they operate. Conquests and the abuse of power is just as present among the figures of deities in Hindu mythology. I prefer seeing ‘asura’ as code for ‘different’. Someone who was Othered on the basis of race, ethinicity, region, religion, or some other idea. But getting back to Narakasuran …

Other narratives associate Narakasuran with the Shaktha path, and in particular, the Sakthi Peeth known as Kamakyha (in Assam). Goddess Kamakyha represents the Yoni of Goddess Sakthi, and is sometimes interpreted as Goddess Kali herself. Her temple, in Assam venerates the Das Mahavidyas (Ten Mahavidyas) and is an important Tantric site. For three days, the river that runs near the temple turns red – it is a sacred site which venerates the Menstruation of the Goddess/The Earth. Navaratri and Manasa Devi (Serpent Goddess) worship is also conducted there. (Definitely on my Sacred Sites to Visit list).

In one myth, Narakasuran challenges Devi Kamakhya, seeking her hand. She, according to legend, sets him a task which is deemed impossible by the break of dawn – yet he nears its successful completion. Devi then chooses to grasp a cock (male chicken) in order for it crow [as its crowing indicates the coming of dawn], so that Narakasuran assumes that he has failed and abandons his nearly-completed feat. So, clearly a powerful being – and one whose reach in both cases transgresses some fundamental principle of Justice or Cosmic Order.

You can read this myth in many ways – and I choose to see it as an invitation to re-conceptualize the figure of Narakasuran. I suspect Tantra has a lot more to say about this figure and what he truly represents in our understanding of Self, Spirit and Spirituality.

Taking all this into account, Narakasuran no longer appears to comfortably sit in the ‘demon’/’evil’/bad’ category. The allegorical principle he represents appears to move beyond the straightforward idea of ‘victory of light over darkness’ as is usually attributed to Deepavali. It seems to be more about ‘knowing the balanced use of one’s power’ and the consequences of failing to do so.

This re-interpretation fits the astrological symbolism of the New Moon in Libra (in Indian [sidereal] astrology- those using the Western astrology would read it as Scorpio). Here, we are encouraged to set the seeds for a fairer, more just way of relating with others. We are called upon to seek Justice, Harmony, Grace and Fairness – and to understand the consequences of seeking to live in imbalanced ways.

Though I have always heard of Deepavali as ‘the festival of lights’ symbolized powerfully by the lone lamp gleaming in the darkness as a portrayal of Good vs. Evil – looking at it now, it seems to be about Balanced Coexistence. Light learns to accept and exist alongside its Absence, and in so doing, the Shadow is Accepted and Wholeness realized. It’s a process, and one we often forget the moment we pit one aspect of ourselves against another.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t defend yourselves if attacked, or seek justice – that’s a whole other thing.

But coming to Deepavali/Diwali – Why else have a festival about ‘Light’ at the time when the Moon is at its ‘Darkest’ if not to teach the principle of Balance and Equality of Light and Dark? On top of that – it’s a Solar Eclipse 🙂

Remember that the mythologies we venerate and assume to be true are thinly-veiled parables. And we each read those parables in different ways.

This is my interpretation of it – feel free to stick to what feels truest for you. Given my reading of this festival, the ‘slaying’ of Narakasuran or the Healing of the Shadow is represented by Naraka Chaturdashi (October 22nd). The point of Coexistence – Balance – Equality comes the day after, with the powerful Libra (Indian approach) / Scorpio (Western approach) Solar Eclipse (October 23rd/24th depending on time zone). I shall be celebrating on both days, and for a while afterwards, I expect 😀

The Eclipse is exact at 5:56 am, October 24 (GMT + 8). For reference, that’s 3.26 am Oct 24 for India (GMT + 5.5), 5:56 pm, October 23 in New York (GMT -4, EDT) and 7:56 am, October 24 IN Brisbane (GMT + 10).

This is a POWERFUL solar eclipse and one which makes a powerful aspect to Neptune Retrograde. More on that closer to the date.

Quite a few people I know seem to be in a state of spiritual limbo or some kind of inner breakdown/turmoil right now. The energy of Mercury Rx in Libra, with the Scorpio Eclipse approaching feels as though one’s life & life choices are under review and intense scrutiny. For some, long-forgotten wounds are rising to the surface to be acknowledged. With all that shifting – for those who experience it in this form – here’s a couple of commonsensical ideas that often get missed in the intensity of it all:

(1) Be gentle with yourself. Chances are whatever’s happening is not done ‘on purpose’ or ‘by design’ just to make you miserable. It’s a process, and one you’re going through as you move towards Wholeness. You’ll emerge from this part of it, just as you always have. Have faith in your capacity to learn, bounce back and integrate all these intense lessons.

(2) Be gentle with yourself. You aren’t ‘evil’ or ‘bad’ for having a ‘shadow side’. Yes, it exists. No, you cannot slay it into oblivion (well, you could try if you liked). Ideally, learn to accept the fact that there are things about you that you would rather not have. And know that even those parts teach you something valuable. If you can’t see the gifts they bear, at the very least work on the fact of accepting their existence in the first place. Denial will not help, in the long-run. And it’s okay – we’ve all got shadow selves. You’re probably not as ‘bad’ as you think.

(3) Be gentle with others. Those going through the ‘internal churning process’ may not be quite as pleasant as normal to those around them. Most people aren’t mind-readers, just communicate your needs if you have them. Assuming you have decent people around you, you’ll probably get some of those needs met by asking – ,if they are valid demands (e.g. I need a hug, I need some space, I need to talk, etc.). Remember that they are people too, undergoing their own internal processes at the same time that you are. Try to return the favour/kindness/attention when you can, if they are in need of it at a later point.

(4) Be gentle. The Universe throws us enough challenges and opportunities for growth and epic transformation. We do not need to make a bumpy ride even bumpier. Take it one day at a time and know that each little step on each day adds up to a mountain of progress in the long run. Baby steps. Nothing wrong with that.

(5) Laugh. Be Inspired. Be Moved. Watch or do something that takes your mind off all of this. Whether it’s a cheesy sitcom, a soap opera, a sunset, a baby giggling – get out of that headspace, or that funk.

(6) Love and Be Grateful. You’re still standing. You’re alive. You have the ability and opportunity to make better decisions than you did in the past. You have the chance not only to change your lives but the lives of those around you, for the better. Be grateful that you have that opportunity, even if it doesn’t seem like you could ever do that now. Gratitude works wonders. Try being grateful for yourself, your existence, at the very least. You were born of Love, even if you may not feel it at this time.

(7) Rest. Sleep longer if you can. Sit under a tree if you find one you like. Visit a temple. Go someplace where you can simply stay still and just sigh with relief. You need that moment of peace and respite from whatever it is that you’re facing. Don’t be afraid to take a little time out just to wind down.

Blessings, and I hope this is of help for those experiencing the current energies in a ‘rough’ manner.

With Love,
