Musings on the Sagittarian Ascendant / Rising Sign
I´ve been thinking about the Sagittarian Ascendant. The Ascendant or Rising sign is “the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon” at the time of your birth ( http://www.alwaysastrology.com/rising-signs.html ) . I often find that the Ascendant tells me more about a person than their Sun sign does (in isolation). You´ve got to look at both to begin to get a picture of a person through astrology.
To me, the Ascendant strongly indicates how a person consciously sees themselves or frames their ego-personality. It´s not who they are, but in some sense, is the … mask they wear. Which, given the fact we are all formless in spirit, is not a bad thing. Think of it as a cognitive label one identifies with.
But I see that it´s not just a label for the mind, it becomes a powerful container that frames and channels the essence of a person. Am exploring this theme more, and will write more on it when appropriate.
In my observations of Sagittarian Ascendants (or those born with a Sagi rising sign), I find a few strong traits that come through. This will apply just as well to those with their Sun in Sagittarius, or prominent placements in the 9th house.
Now this isn´t meant to describe the entire sign, as the decan makes a difference. Those born with early (say, 0 – 10 degrees) of the sign differ from those born with middle or late Sag degrees. Different topic.
But generally speaking, Sagi Ascendants have a very strong influence on the world around them. People tend to gravitate towards them quite naturally and the worldviews they preach or expound upon. It can be the philosopher, the professor, the preacher, the astrologer, the explorer – or so on.
Which can be an educational thing, all things considered. Sagittarians often have something to teach, whether or not they do so consciously.
I find some Sagittarians (especially those with Scorpio in the 12th) to have a very strong, magnetic influence on those around them. Almost as though the audience and his/her perspectives are suspended to some degree in favour of the speaker. This can be an excellent thing, or a very dangerous thing. Some might argue, both.
Not everyone is going to exhibit it in quite the same way, but it is a powerful theme I´m seeing. So if you have your Sag rising between, say, 0-10 degrees – have a look see if this applies to you. And bear in mind that it may not be something that you´re conscious of, possibly something taken for granted 🙂 as your status quo, so to speak.
( And no I´m not a Sag Rising 😀 keep guessing! )
