A Quick Reminder on Self-Care in Times of Transition

We are in a time of massive re-alignment: celestially, personally, globally, and so on. So many of us are re-thinking our fundamental sense of identity, purpose, home, belonging and potential futures.

Some find this exciting, inspiring and motivating.
Others become anxious, fearful and confused.

(Sometimes alternating combinations of both)

All of these experiences and responses are valid.

Because we’re all in different places in our lives and we all come at these changes from different perspectives.

What I can tell you is that not knowing what to do next is not a bad thing.

It may just mean that it’s time to look out of your immediate pool of reference and seek guidance, or simply sit still and let the Universe guide you from within.

Both is fine – just make sure you choose good guidance and/or listen to your heart rather than your ego.

Which is hard to do when you’re spiraling in cycles of doubt, fear, anxiety and so on.

Remember that you do not get extra spiritual street cred for trying to do everything by yourself, or by outsourcing all of your decisions to others.

Both extremes are equally bad. Find a middle ground.

If things seem overwhelming for you, focus on concrete tasks that keep you anchored and grounded daily.

It could be:

sweeping the floor
watching a show you like
drinking a herbal tea
taking a deep belly breath
sending a note of encouragement to someone who is suffering
standing in solidarity with someone / a worthy cause
donating an item to a charity

Something that signals to you – that you’re taking care of yourself in the here and now – and that come what may you will be able to keep doing that one small thing, whatever it is.

Remember that self-care is not an invitation to solipsism, it takes a healthy balance of give and take, of solitude and connection with others.

In times of transition, you find consistency and solidity through these small, repeated acts.

Dismantling thousands of years of social, political, cultural and economic decisions and their choices does not happen overnight. New structures do not just emerge out of thin air.

The same thing applies to you and your life.
