Goddess Rising

RADICAL, AUTHENTIC SELF-EMBODIMENT: Lessons from the Finger of Fate (Yod) involving Mars, North Node, Jupiter and Vesta-conjunct-Eris

Radical Self Embodiment

Authenticity. Truth. Awareness. Being. These are our contemporary spiritual buzzwords – and for good reason – as that same message beams to us from the skies, coded in astrological alignments.

A few days ago, we saw the mighty Eris-Vesta conjunction, one that dared us to break through the many layers and forms of social conditioning that told us that we should never be our truest selves. This is especially true for women and for men who recognize their connection with a Deeper sense of Femininity. Be it the nurturer, the assertive seeker of justice, the avenging Goddess, the compassionate Mother – whatever you resonate with. What has been hidden or suppressed is now ready to be revealed and fully embodied.

Eris is the Goddess of Chaos, whereas Vesta is the Goddess of the Hearth or Sacred Flame. In Aries, they both encourage us to express and experience different forms and levels of Be-ing, Using the metaphor of flame, one represents the raging forest fire, and the other, the steady lamp that lights the home and hearth. Both are necessary, both are valid, both are aspects of Being. (and everything else in between)

In short, the Eris-Vesta conjunction is a powerful call to radical self-embodiment, where we are no longer constrained by these societal ´rules´ that tell us how to Be, and forms of Femininty we must or must not express.

Both Eris and Vesta are a part of a powerful Yod (Finger of Fate). They form its apex, connected by way of inconjuncts (150 degree angles) to Mars, the North Node and Jupiter. Essentially, Yods are powerful funnels of karmic energy and alchemy. They push you to make certain key choices and karmic decisions, accelerating and intensifying your spiritual growth process to a powerful degree. They can be profound catalysts of life-changing decisions, precusors to spiritual awakening.

The experience of a Yod can be harsh, particularly if you resist the changes it pushes you to make at a deep, sub-conscious level. Yods can be quite fun and energizing if you view them as opportunities to step out of old cycles and consciously choose your process of energetic engagement with the Cosmos. At the end of the day, it boils down to a matter of perspective.

This particular Yod began on February 8 and will continue to have effect till February 24, 2016. Let´s look at the other components of this alignment:

Mars´ role at 24 Scorpio tells us that the way to develop and discover this Radical sense of Selfhood is through the domain of the sub-conscious, and the ancestral or karmic lineage that we bear. We look to the energy and assertiveness of Mars in recogizing karmic patterns that relate to the way we seek intimacy, control, power and resources (financial, sexual and otherwise). Much of this ties in with the way we have been taught to relate to the Masculine (Yang) Archetype, be in through self-expression and/or projection unto our partners. Mars in Scorpio can seek power through conquest, manipulation, violence and other forms of control – this is when it operates through the Ego. At a more realized level, Mars in Scorpio can seek true power through the act of Surrender. Not necessarily to another, but as an act of honoring the Depth of the Self, and its connection with the Sacred. Much of this energy will focus upon lower-chakra work, our archetypal connection with the Shadow Domain and the Underworld and/or the Sub-Conscious. Scorpio´s energies relate to alchemy and the reactivity of energies or elements, be it in the boardroom or the bedroom. The merger of resources catalyzes the creation of something new, often through the destruction (and transmutation) of its component parts.

The North Node and Jupiter (20-22 Virgo) demonstrate how our path to greatest growth, spiritual evolution and personal expansion is linked with the need to preserve and nurture the material requirements of the self (before being able to serve others). Be it through the act of facilitation, organization, logistical management, or the need to take care of the ´little things´, i.e. the nuts and bolts of daily existence – Virgo tells us that through the seemingly mundane, we discover new ways to materially and physically sustain whatever newer forms of power/intimacy (Scorpio) and being (Aries) we seek to explore and embody. It is especially important to recognize the need to take care of the well-being of the physical vessel through daily routines, ritual-work and other material acts – so that it can truly serve. Whether it´s 5 minutes of deep breathing, chanting, earthing, or a bi-weekly salt soak for the feet, or making sure that you´ve got a roof over your head and healthy food to eat – whatever way, no matter how ´trivial´ it may seem as compare to the the ´larger questions´, this is where Jupiter (the Teacher, Revealer of the Path Ahead) and the North Node (A Chance to Break out of Old Karmic Cycles and Begin New Lessons) tell us to focus upon at this time. Bear in Mind that Chiron (18 Pisces) opposes Jupiter and the North Node, pressuring us to more fully look at the archetype of the ´wounded healer´ and the role that the ´wound´ has played in our understanding of Service thus far. Perhaps it need not play the same role as it had before.

This is linked with a far larger question on woundology, and how we have been taught that association with our wounds is somehow elevated, more spiritual and/or saintly. I´ve discussed this elsewhere, but here´s the argument in a nutshell.

For too long have spiritualists and facilitators been told that they must live from hand-to-mouth or suffer physical depravation and/or to pedestalize suffering and woundedness in order to truly be ´holy´. Perhaps that was the marker of sainthood in an earlier age, but it seems me that the ethos of the current age is decidedly different. That is not to say that true acts of surrender and sacrifice are not sacred, it is to say that there are other roads or paths to spirituality. We need not be confined to one.

Returning to the North Node and Jupiter in Virgo, following from this logic, we are asked to explore the idea of taking care of, or preserving the self first so it can be self-sufficient. We are shamed into avoiding this as it would (allegedly) make us ´selfish´. I find that a strange argument as a healer who has him/herself taken the time to heal, get grounded and perhaps even find happiness – is more likely going to be able to better help another through the process. In this sense, self-preservation, starting at the most everyday level, can only empower you further as a faciliator.

Taking it all together, this Yod enables us to penetrate through old-paradigm dogma, and to discover and experience a more fuller sense of Being. That doesn´t have to be all rage, anger and roaring fire at the status quo, it can just as well break through into a more compassionate heart-space where Radical Self-Embodiment is Radical Self-Acceptance. There are many ways this can play out, so feel free to explore what works for you.

I should also mention that the likelihood of seeing a health crisis emerge or erupt as the catalyst to awakening is also present. Scorpio rules healing and Virgo health – they both focus on Aries (the Self). Give your bodies time to adjust to the awakening process underway and feel free to take plenty of rest (you´ll be processing in your sleep anyway).

In conclusion, I would like to share something from an Eris Awakens session that just concluded. What I witnessed was so beautiful, fragile and powerful that it will forever stay with me. The lady I was working with experienced a beautiful breakthrough, an absolute moment of clarity that visibly showed on her face. From a place of deep anger, she moved into a far calmer heart-space, forsaking none of Her Fierce Femininty, but becoming far more open to embrace a more fuller expression of All-That-(She)-Is. It was quite a beautiful thing to witness, and it´s still sinking in.

What a powerful time we live in.

Blessings, and I hope this article has served as a guide to understanding the powerful energies of this Yod.

May we each find our own paths to Radical Self-Embodiment, in ways that harm none and create greater beauty, in Self and the Collective.

THE DARK GODDESS PREPARES TO FORGE HER LEGACY: Black Moon Lilith sextiles Saturn (28 Virgo – Scorpio, 10th August 2015).

The_Hindu_Goddess_Kali_LACMA_M.83.48_(1_of_9)

Maha-Kali’s beautiful face projected onto the Empire State Tower in New York – a paradigm-breaking/defining moment now gone viral on the Internet. I can’t think of a better visual depiction that summarizes this exact Black Moon Lilith / Saturn sextile and what it means for us all.

Saturn represents the pinnacle of material manifestation, the power of ‘the establishment’, whereas Black Moon Lilith represents The Dark Goddess herself, albeit more so towards the Crone/Detached aspects of her being. In Scorpio, Saturn demonstrates to us what is true about our our relationship with power and how we discover our authenticity in that journey of discovery. Saturn then takes these energy and power of these realizations and, like a reservoir, stores and channels it a gradual way towards the fulfillment of longer-term goals. Linked with the energy of ‘building’, few things scream ‘establishment, authority, status’ as the iconic Empire State Building in New York City (and as one clever commentator noted, essentially She’s on a giant phallus, a.k.a Shiva Lingam).

In Virgo, Black Moon Lilith rises to the Path of Service irrespective of how she is projected upon (unintended pun 😉 – as a sexual harlot, as a mad-blood-thirsty-vampiric-heathen-daimon, as something unclean, impure, etc. Those of you familiar with the history of the Goddess and Priestess traditions and the ways in which they have been suppressed and re-written by mainstream readings of religion and spirituality will know exactly what I’m talking about. In the original context of the artistic projection of Kali-Ma, her image was used as part of an effort to raise awareness of the need to protect animals (which is Virgo-an in its desire to preserve and sustain the self and others through the material world).

Seeing the two come together in that powerful, visual image just .. captures this sextile’s energy of possibility in sheer perfection.

In our daily lives, we are inspired now to come forwards – in the public eye – and Serve in the ways we see fit, embodying Her Vibration. She, Maha-Kali, represents a spectrum of possibilities too vast to ever contain in any single archetype: The Fierce Warrior, The Nurturing Mother, The Tantric Lover, The Formless Feminine; The Widowed Crone; The Maiden of the Three Worlds — the list just goes on and on..

As we embody her without fear, and in absolute integrity, we set the foundation establishing a Path of Service that will stand the test of Time, and, if need be, challenge the dominant institutions, norms and structures that seek to project upon it differently. In some sense, this image is an inverse – for it is the Super-Structure (Capricorn) that The Dark Goddess is projected upon, not vice versa.

Also bear in mind that we’re already in a fairly heavy energetic climate, what with Jupiter’s impending transit into Virgo tomorrow, Saturn preparing to enter Sagittarius, multiple retrogrades ongoing & more. I’ll be covering that in later articles so stay tuned!

In the meantime, celebrate your love for The Dark Goddess within and don’t be afraid to Serve her as you see fit.

Those of you with bodies close to 28 Aries will experience this sextile as a powerful Yod (or Finger of Fate). As I looked to a complete list of known asteroids currently at this point, I couldn’t help but notice two: Discovery (9770) and Opportunity (39382).

I read this as a threefold cosmic, energetic promise:

(1) that more and more are going to awaken to the Archetype of the Dark Goddess and recognize her as an undeniably elemental, primordial, palpable presence – or archetype – within our lives

(2) that we will individually and collectively rediscover that which is Sacred about Her and those who walk with on their Paths of Service

(3) that we will come to realization of how we can and must integrate her wisdom if we are to live with integrity, authenticity and as part of human civilization that can stand the test of time. The message for which Ma was introduced – as a fierce warrior able to protect endangered species – is a clear beginning.

Is it any surprise that the project-makers, who made this beautiful, beautiful, message possible called it ‘Projecting-Change’ ?

I leave you with the words of Vera de Chalambert, expressing her heartfelt joy at the display:

“In a breathtaking heart-to-heart, Ma Kali took New York last night. The Divine Feminine, Maha Shakti, goddess of spiritual death, destruction and resurrection, rode the zeitgeist straight onto the face of the Empire State Building…

In an unprecedented and awe-inspiring public display of art by filmmaker Louie Psihoyos and his team, Projecting Change, projected onto the NYC skyline , was meant to spark awareness of massive wildlife extinction, and be a chilling call to conservation turning the Empire State Building, New York’s brightest and most recognizable symbol and capitalism’s earliest totem, into the worlds greatest canvas, as well as its most epic tombstone and oracle of the Dark Feminine”.

POSTPONED! THE CREATIVE, CONSCIOUS VAGINA: FEMALE SEXUALITY AND TRANSCENDENTAL SPIRITUALITY – 2 HR SPECIAL EPISODE ON THE DARK MOTHER’S CHILDREN!

The Creative, Conscious Vagina Promo

POSTPONED!!! We have a 2-hour special on a very very, interesting topic that we’ll be exploring with three wonderful guest speakers! We’re going to be looking at “The Creative, Conscious Vagina: Female Sexuality and Transcendental Spirituality” with Katharine Krueger, Priestess Kerri Ryan MA and Marie de Kock.

Join me, your host, Priestess Bairavee Balasubramaniam PhD, as we explore the powerful connection between feminine sexuality and spirituality in conversation with these powerful, insightful women.

Katharine speaks to us about the role of ancestral healing and the ripples across the generational lines that womb healing can provide, ways in which we can begin to tune into our bodies and the fact that speaking about the vagina is not just a ‘woman’s issue’, but rather, is a part of the fabric of human consciousness.

Kerri shares with us channeled insights on the ancient priestess traditions dedicated to the Goddess Ishtar-Inanna, the rite of hieros gamos, and what sexual priestesses – those who embodied the archetype of ‘the sacred prostitute’ were actually doing in ancient rites – and how we can embody them today.

Marie speaks to us on the 5-Dimensional model of the human energy system, in connection with the Earth and the Cosmos, the Torodial Energy Field and its relationship with sexuality. We discuss the profound energetic difference between having ‘adrenalin-sex’ and sex that involves the ‘implosive orgasm’ – and more.

It’s going to be a very rich, juicy, and thought-womb-consciousness provoking episode, inspired my reading of Naomi Wolf’s ” Vagina: A New Biography “. Highly recommended reading!

You can listen to this 2-hour special episode LIVE at www.wgtrlive.com – airing at 4 pm, Central US-CST/Chicago time zone on the 26th of May.

The show will also be available for on-demand listening within a few days’ time.

Blessings to All! I hope many of you tune in for what promises to be the most exciting episode thus far on The Dark Mother’s Children!

THE RISE OF THE DARK PRIESTESS: Vesta conjuncts the Galactic Center and Black Moon Lilith shifts into Virgo

The Goddess Asteroid Vesta represents the Archetype of the Priestess. She calls us to find a path of faith, commitment, devotion, dedication – and equally of sacrifice – and – rejuvenation.

Conjunct the Galactic Center, Vesta calls us to learn from the Great/Grand Central Sun and the Black Hole at the Center of the Universe. We are called to balance the Polarities of Light and Dark – and to see the Healing and Wisdom within both.

She asks us to awaken to the Wisdom and Heritage of the Priestess.

Black Moon Lilith in Virgo reinforces the same energy – Here we are challenged to stand up and determine our own Sexuality, and Material Paths of Service.

THE PATH OF THE PRIESTESS: PEACE? WAR? HEALING? TRANSMUTATION? LOVE? ALCHEMY?

thanjavur bairavee

As Priestesses – what is it that we do? Do we hold someone’s hand and listen to them pour their hearts out? Do we just ‘talk straight’, and tell someone what they really need to hear? Do we heal? Do we inspire? Do we defend? Do we terrify? Do we help out behind the scenes or jump straight into the heart of things?

Yes…  Yes… and Yes ….

And a lot more besides …

Being a Priestess does not require a religion, or even any understanding of faith (as paradoxical as that sounds). Some Priestesses use a Title, and some others do not even recognize the construct – doesn’t stop them from being one though 😉 And both approaches are just as valid.

And just to be clear – whilst I tend to address my posts to all genders, this one has a strong emphasis on the Feminine. The Priest’s Path of Service tends to be slightly different – but those who have a balanced sense of Masculine/Feminine will be able to relate to this piece as well.

What I have seen across the board is this: Priestesses live day-to-day with eyes in this world and in plenty others simultaneously. They see the movement of Spirit, Divinity, Grace, Life through all that occurs and honor, amplify or simply recognize that movement through some form of Service. As a Priestess upholds, embodies and anchors that vibration of Living-in-Communion, she naturally becomes a beacon that others are drawn to – a Gateway, if you will – to Healing and Re-connection.

Sometimes it’s a pleasant process, and at other times, it can be extremely uncomfortable. Some Priestesses are gentler, others are harsher. Some see joy and life in the world, and others see the rot and are focused upon its healing. Sometimes both, and a lot more besides. There’s just no generalizing it.

You can find a Priestess in a hospital, in a church, in a pagan community, in a social care center, in parliament, in a corporation, in a mirror – anywhere where there is a Woman able to see this Movement/Vibration and Align herself with it.

But more than any of that – there’s the Devotion, or Dedication to a particular Cause, Vibration or Idea. In ancient times, many of us chose death over the forsaking of our beliefs; We chose our cause of devotion over much-desired love and comfort; We chose to walk the route that no one else dared or wanted to even approach (as so many awakening priestesses are beginning to remember).

Some of us continue to make those same choices. And in some parts of the world, it really is a matter of life-and-death. For most of us, the repercussions are nowhere near as dire. But that does not make our choices any less significant.

We see it when we are called to speak our Truth to friends, family, colleagues, lovers, and so on. We see it in our thoughts, emotions, ideas and very substance, or essence of Being.

A constantly running red thread … that keeps pulsing, as real as your heartbeat. The sound of an invisible drum, a rhythm your Soul keeps dancing to. Each footstep, each time you follow that thread – a Choice is Made.

At times these choices seems like Trials – Trials of Fire and Spirit that just keep you going forward, come what may. Some with more intensity, others less so (and both is fine).

The choices that come in our lives, which call us to always, always look at things from a Transcendent Perspective. We’re always called to take the ‘higher/deeper’ road – and nothing exists in half-measures.

There is this constant intensity – be if of joy, trials, sorrow, anger – or any other emotional state (sometimes all) as Priestesses begin to remember and embody their Sacred Archetypes.

It’s not all grim, but it’s not all cupcakes and roses either. There is a beauty to this path, but also a great striving that accompanies it – especially in the earlier phases of awakening.

In my case, I was recognized as a Priestess (without the title ever being used) by a spiritually attuned mother and a father who recognized me as his teacher (and I him) from infancy. Even so, Living the Path, has not been a walk in the park (and that too, is a part of my Service).

In my earlier years, given my name (Bhairavi – Destroyer of Obstacles, The Most Terrifying Aspect of Maha-Kali) and cultural background (where Goddesses are shown sticking tridents into and impaling ‘demons’) – the biggest lesson I had to learn was in the Mode, or Type of Service I was called to give. The ‘battle metaphor’ had to dissolve (which took some work, and the help of friends), till I was better able to see the full spectrum of things.

So here’s some of what I’ve learnt:

(1) Leaping into battle doesn’t always work. But neither does dropping all your defenses and walking in as the pacifist.

(2) Mediation, Healing and Transmutation isn’t always the best course of action (at least, not at first). Sometimes Defending, Protecting and Making a Boundary is.

(3) Holding your ground is right sometimes, but so is complete Surrender.

(4) Not backing down is just as valid as turning your back and walking away

(5) Not all crises are yours to solve, not all problems you encounter are a part of the work that you came to do.

(Sometimes we feel indispensable, and that too is a part of the ego learning that this Priestessing business is not something you can put in a box 😀 )

(6) There is no ‘one formula’ or ‘mode’ that can be used for every situation – nothing is generalizable

(7) The moment you think you ‘know’ something, the Universe shows up with a whole new thing for you to learn. It’s endless, and that’s a beautiful thing in itself.

I’d like to think that I integrate a wider repertoire of these responses in the current way I walk my path, and that I will continue to learn more as time progresses. My trident (claws/ferocity) is there in the background should I ever truly require it, but a more peaceful approach tends to solve most issues.

But one thing I have learnt through all of this is the following:

That there is no ‘default’ response for what a Priestess does, when she is Called to Serve. We are all different, and our Paths and Purposes are different – as are the wide range of situations we encounter in our individual lives.

So there is no need to generalize, to compare one’s path with another, or to try and create a ‘standard formula for Priestessing’.

Here’s what I wrote to a friend earlier today, on the same subject – and with these words I leave you to your thoughts:

At times we will be called into battle to seek the peace through mediation. And at other times, we will be called to fortify the defenses against assault. Sometimes it’s making sure the crops grow and people are safe. It’s very very relative.

At times we burn, at times we heal, at times we stand our ground, or build bridges – and at times, we make sure we turn and never look back. All are necessary, all are equal, and all are …. specific to the circumstance.

THE GREAT GODDESS FIRE TRINE: SHEKINAH/SHAKTI RISING (NOW – TILL OCT 2015!) – A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS!

Great Goddess Fire Trine

The energies of the Goddess are strongly represented in the skies by a powerful Grand Fire Trine, involving: Juno, Uranus Retrograde and Vesta/Ceres (in the 3rd corner).

This alignment encourages us to light the three beacons which will ignite our collective Re-Awakening, Re-cognition and Re-turn of the Feminine Principle. Some of the keywords you might associate with this energy include: Self – Path of Service – Sacral Reconnection – Creation – Passion – Embodiment – Feminine Rising!

The_Flame_-_Odilon_Redon

The Grand Fire Trine began at 6:32 pm Oct 25th and will end at 6:11 pm Dec 14 (GMT + 8). The GFT alignment re-forms in January 2015, and is constantly revisited for most of 2015, till the start of October to be precise! (albeit involving different planetary bodies)

This is an exciting energy that clearly indicates the acceleration of the rate of collective awakening as we continue to embody the Feminine Principle through ‘I AM’ Consciousness. In other words – it’s Wake-Up Time, and all of our Spiritual Alarm Clocks have just begun to Ring!

Set your seeds now, my friends, for the internal and external work that you do between now and mid-December will strongly set the tone for the rest of this year, and much of the next year.

Here is a brief description of what each component of the GFT brings to us:

Juno (Leo) – The energy of the Soulmate, particularly through a child or a romantic partner, teaches you a lesson in self-expression, the need for authenticity and ultimately a reconnection with the Sacral Creativity of the Feminine. These same lessons can come through your individual efforts in working with your own creative and sacral (Swadishthana/Sexual) energies.

Juno ultimately seeks to complete and complement who we are.

She is seen as the ‘marriage partner’ or soulmate – I find – due to a patriarchal reading of astrology which sees the male subject as the dominant one. A quick study of Juno’s worship shows her invocation in matters of birth, liminal crossings, marriage, defense, etc. I interpret her energy as one of completion, of seeking one’s connection with the Divine Feminine Herself.

Call her Shekinah, Shakti, Gaia-Sophia, Asherah – She represents the flow of all of these energies – of ‘Goddess Consciousness’ as it circulates through and from you as part of the movement of energy in the Universe.

Jupiter (Leo) – Jupiter loosely conjuncts Juno between Nov 26 till the end of the GFT in 2014 (i.e. December 14). Jupiter’s energy amplifies the energies of Juno (flow of the Divine Feminine) and brings us the gifts and wisdom of teachers and guides seeking to facilitate our journeys with the Eternal-Transcendental She. Note that Jupiter begins its Retrograde in Leo on Dec 8 2014.

Uranus Rx (Ari) – Uranus Retrograde in Aries facilitates this energy of awakening, often through perceived ‘errors’ in communication or perception, and/or in an abrupt form. As we awaken to the Truth of who we Are (i.e. Pure, Creative, Radiant Spirit), we will radically alter our embodiment of Self – the way we carry, represent, assert and simply exist as individuals in our own rights, entitled to our own spaces. I expect many breakthrough of consciousness to come through the method of Gnosis at this time.

Transiting 3rd corner components – dates given are of the duration of their role in the Great Goddess Fire Trine:

Oct 25 – Nov 15 2014 – Vesta (Sag)

The archetype of Priest/ess or Spiritual Facilitator is called to Serve. We are drawn to Paths which involve an expansion of the way we see ourselves and our Spiritual Journeys.

Nov 12 – Dec 14 2014 – Ceres (Sag)

The Asteroid Goddess of Nurture teaches us how to nurture ourselves and others by engaging in our sense of exploration, expansion – seeking our way forward on our Paths – be it through physical travel or journeys of the mind through higher education, philosophy, structured religious or spiritual workings.

The third corner will also be aspected by Mercury, Sun, Venus, Saturn and Pallas Athena as they eventually enter Sagittarius. We will be feeling a stellium of these energies in the 3rd week of November, as all of them feed into the GFT itself. The Moon of course interacts with this alignment and activates it through conjunctions and oppositions (in particular).

This is truly a time to celebrating the Rising of Goddess Consciousness in all Beings. I expect to see a great surge of creative works, written books on the philosophy and path to reach (and embody) Shakti/Shekinah and a radical awakening in our individual and collective consciousness. Such an exciting time to be alive.

Yes my friends, the next chapter, following the intensity and aftermath of the Grand Cardinal Cross of 2014 – has officially begun.

Shakti Awakes

I leave you with the motto I use on my page The Goddess, The Serpent and The Sea: Building Pathways of Light

Happy Navarathri! The Nine Nights of The Goddess!

800px-Durga_Puja_celebration

Navarathri meaning (nine nights) is a nine night-ten day festival dedicated to the various forms of Goddess Durga. Celebrated on a grand scale in parts of India and Nepal, Navarathri is one of the ritual highlights on the Hindu calendar. Devotees of the Mother typically fast, pray and house dolls of the Goddess in their homes. Large parades and festivals featuring beautiful larger-than-life sculptures of Her are paraded through the streets, flanked by throngs of devotees. It’s a beautiful, colourful and festive time!

There are several different Navarathri phases throughout the year, however, the (current) cycle held in the month of September/October is usually the biggest, grandest one of them all. Generally speaking, using the Vedic Calendar, the major Navaratri period begins the day after the New Moon in Virgo (Kanya ‘Virgin’ Raasi/Sign). (The Western calculation would view that as the New Moon in Libra just past). We call this the start of the month of Ashwin (in some Hindu calendars- there are various, and they don’t all align). The Tamils for instance, consider this the 9th day of the month of Protasi (Purataasi Maasam)

We’ve just begun celebrating Navarathri today (September 25th 2014), which will continue for nine nights and culminate on the 10th day (October 4th 2014)

On each day, a different aspect of the Goddess is venerated, each with Her own sacred symbolism, form and purpose. On the 10th day we celebrate Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra (or Dasara) – on this day, all forms of the Goddess Unite as one. Twenty days from Vijayadashami, Hindus will celebrate Deepavali/Diwali. This corresponds with the night before the New Moon in Libra (Vedic Calendar) and falls on October 23rd, this year.

I interpret the energy of Virgo as the Rising Woman, the Self-Sufficient Priestess Nurturing Herself and Others. The celebration of Goddess during the Virgo New Moon is a powerful and logical association to make. As we (all) align ourselves to Her vibrations, through fasting, prayer and ritual we set powerful intentions for the next astrological cycle ahead – with the Full Moon in Pisces, six months from now (as per the Vedic calendar). Virgo is to Shakti as Pisces is to Shiva – in my understanding of the Two.

The celebration of Navarathri at this time paves the way to Deepavali/Diwali, the Festival of Lights (October 23rd 2014) – which I will write on, closer to the date.

Each day of Navaratri corresponds to a different aspect of The Goddess. There are multiple ways of conceptualizing these Nine Aspects, so there isn’t ‘One’ Narrative that defines the process. Also, the festival is celebrated differently across the various regions of India 🙂

My preferred interpretation of it is to break it down into three segments:

Days 1-3 are dedicated to the energies of Goddess Durga in her form of Mother/Warrior – Nurturer/Protector. (September 25-27 2014)

Days 4-6 are dedicated to the energies of Goddess Laxmi. She brings Grace, Abundance, Comfort, Harmony and Peace to the world in Material Form and in that sense shares many attributes with Goddess Venus. (September 28-30 2014)

Days 7-9 are dedicated to the energies of Goddess Saraswati. She brings Knowledge and Wisdom and is more associated with the Intellect and the Mind. (October 1-3 2014)

Day 10 is conceptualized in different ways (more details shared on October 4th!). It is said, that through the entire Navarathri period, the Goddess is engaged in battle with a fierce demon known as Mahishasura (the ‘Buffalo Demon’). On Vijayadachami  – literally meaning victory (vijaya) on the tenth day of the lunar month (dachami), she combines her 9 forms, and energies, into One and gains the strength to defeat him. This is why Goddess Durga is also known as Mahishasuramardini. You can hear a wonderful rendition of the Mahishasura mardini Strotam here:

In this conceptualization, I interpret the duration of the 9 days to correspond to the natural progression of the human chakra system. We begin with issues of tribal connection and survival in the first three days (defending the self from enemies and nurturing one’s family/tribe). We move on towards a wider understanding of material concerns, and a desire for comfort, attachment and pleasure in its many forms. We finally learn the wisdom of detachment and explore the higher faculties of Mind.

—  till we finally transcend that too — on the 10th day – Vijayadashami – The gifts of each chakra are combined, and the lessons of each integrated. We are finally able to overcome our perceived obstacles. This ‘victory’ is normally depicted as The Mother slaying the Buffalo Demon Mashisura, her eight arms poised at the climax of battle. Another narrative suggests that it was on this day that the gifts of the male gods combined to form the powerful goddess Durga – whom some accounts suggest as the Virgin.

(For those interested you might want to read my take on ‘Reclaiming the Virgin’ to get the fullest implications of using that term – and the astrological energy of Virgo associated with this 9 night, 10 day festival. http://wp.me/p4OUNS-5i )

Personally, I resonate more with this interpretation of how the Mother ‘defeats’ Mahishasura:  that it is not through battle/death, but through her sheer Loving, Powerful Presence for nothing untoward can exist in such Purity. I listened to this interpretation some time ago and will share the link with you when I chance upon it again. It took a while for it to sink it, but when it did – I couldn’t look at the narrative in quite the same way.

Putting it all together, I view these 9 days of prayer as a Pathway to Transcendence, within Material Form. The Rise of Virgo (Goddess / Priest/ess / Divine Feminine) as She Comes into Her Own Power – which includes of course, the same aspect of energy in men.

As we embody the Mother’s Love in Material Form, connecting all parts of our Being …. We learn that her Lessons of Strength and Power come .. at the end of the Day, through the Highest, Deepest, vibration of Cosmic Love.

Blessings to All. And Happy Navarathri.

TRIALS OF THE PRIEST/ESS IN AWAKENING THE DIVINE FEMININE by Priestess Bairavee Balasubramaniam, PhD

Vanakam, Namaste and Blessings to all. My video speaks of the energies currently in the sky that issue an energetic challenge to us all, particularly those who take up the spiritual vocation of priest/essing, or facilitating spiritual services that involve the integration of Divine Feminine energy. These challenges are precipitated by key alignments of yods and a Near-Grand-Sextile in the sky, explained in full here: http://wp.me/p4OUNS-4H

The way we respond to these challenges of judgment and perceived wounding shall anchor a pathway of manifestation that gives rise to, or suppresses, our Inner Priest/ess from Awakening. The choice is yours as to how you respond to these challenges – remember that they occur with the energetic alignments of the G.Sextile and Double Yod I describe in my article.

I have shared relevant links to articles addressing the themes of Priest/essing-Choosing-Wounding-Transcending on my FB pages for those interested.

Blessings to all,

Why do I call myself a Priestess? A Reflection by Priestess Bairavee Balasubramaniam, PhD

It’s a question I’ve been wanting to answer. So I did 🙂 And I hope my reflections on the subject will be of use to others in their journey as well. I know many have inspired my own, and so the Cycle continues ❤ ❤ ❤

Here I speak of embodiment and honoring the Unity and Diversity that is within us all. Let’s ask ourselves, as individuals, as a collective – How do we Rise with Authenticity?

ARISE, AWAKEN AND BE! By Priestess Bairavee Balasubramaniam, PhD

[Reprint from 5th September 2013]

In ancient times, the world’s civilizations worshiped the Great Mother, honored the elemental and natural metaphysics of existence, living in peace with Nature. Women lived and served as priestesses in hallowed temples, celebrating their sacred connection with the Divine through their bodies, and often, their liberated sexuality. And everywhere the Mother was to be found, so too was the Serpent, and the Sea.

Many of these civilizations we have forgotten entirely, remaining in our collective memories through ‘flood myths’, folklore and a vague sense of recognition. The temples of Atlantis, Lemuria and Mu still call out to those who are willing to listen.

With the rise of the written word and the enforcement of patriarchal social norms, humanity lost its sacred connection with the Divine, with Nature, with its priestesses. And the world changed.

In an age where women are still abused and seen as unequal, despite monumental breakthroughs in science, technology, education and articulations of political equality – women are still are kept out of sacred spaces, their intuitive wisdom ridiculed and ignored, their sacred blood seen as wretched. There is no more cause to wait: It is time to Arise, Awaken and Be.

With Love, with Memory, with Connection, let us find our strength once again and re-build this broken connection, let us celebrate the sacred union of the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine to find ourselves whole once more.

Let us bring our priestesses back into the temples, back into the heart of spiritual life, alongside priests. Let us honor Nature and her fierce, wise and loyal Serpent and allow these energies to light the way for our future. Let us bridge the diverse religious and spiritual traditions of the world through the Gateway of Love in the Heart, the Gateway of Home in the Earth and the Ocean and the Gateway to the Cosmos in the Crown.

Let us commune with the consciousness of forgotten civilizations submerged by time and the oceans, supported by intelligence and compassion whose origins we are yet to comprehend. Advanced in their spiritual knowledge, they call out to us to bring back this path once again: Of Goddess, Serpent and Sea.
