THE POWER OF A CHILD’S SMILE

Soul_of_innocence...

Had a lovely experience coming back to my house with my mum. We’d just been buying some food from some vendors who’d set up shop to mark the Ramadan festivities. Lots of traditional Malay cuisine (steamed rice cooked in the hollow of bamboo stalks, different curries loaded with coconut milk, colourful sweets, satay, sea coconut water and other kinds of local drinks). It was nice little walk for me and mum.

On the way back, I was carrying back stuff to take home and there was this Tamil family waiting by the lifts. A card-activated security glass door in between. So the family’s waiting and this little boy notices me walking up, changes direction, rushes to the door, opens it so I can get through. I smile, he smiles back and I say thank you – to which he says you’re welcome.

It’s not a common gesture here – at least not for the kids to do – and my mum had to shout behind me to keep the door open for her as I was quite surprised. Then a little girl followed behind her, I held the door open with my foot – She looked a little uncertain at first, then smiled sweetly and said thank you.

I seems like such a simple thing, but I just felt two chakras open when I saw those innocent, happy, smiles. The Heart and the Sacral, and a very motherly-nurturing feeling just poured through me. A peaceful vibration of calm.

It’s such a simple thing, and so yet so extraordinary. My mind was in a completely different place – just focused on getting back home. And then I just experienced this total shift of perspective and gentle calming – out of the blue. I felt hope, pure hope and all at once my (perception of the) world at large changed. Quite a beautiful feeling of peace and calm.

Amazing what power a child’s smile holds
