I´ve been holding space for a discussion on parity and making the work sustainable on my personal profile. And many have contributed valuable suggestions as to how I can continue to help people, without running dry.
This work as you can imagine takes a lot more time and resources than it looks. Sessions, whilst it may mean a half hour for you, means (in some cases) an hour or two of recovery for me.
Working with spirit at high intensity is not something that I can sustainably do for my physical health, and equally for my personal finances.
And you know what I´m like: I do not compromise on quality.
I have family responsibilities and a college loan to think about and so I am having to re-think how I do things.
I did try requesting donations, but literally a handful of people came forth. And I am absolutely grateful to them for wanting to ease my physical existence on this plane.
I cannot hold it against anyone for not contributing because we have collectively become used to the idea that labour online is free.
Otherwise I´m going to have to go back into academia, public speaking or find some other way to make ends meet – and that means bringing this work to a close.
My responsibilities have increased as of late, prompting all these considerations.
You should know me enough by now to know that I don’t share what I share with you for money. You couldn’t make me do it for money, fame , praise, etc.
But I can’t keep doing this if I’m not fiscally supported by the community that I give my time to. There isn’t a balance.
What I’m thinking about is a partial paywall . There will be a component of the work that remains freely accessible.
I do not believe in denying people access to a basic minimum of guidance on the basis of whether they earn enough.
I trust that the people who support me will also support this move. And that people who can pay will not choose to freeload.
Because frankly, people expect too much. You give one thing free, and everything else is expected to follow. This kind of entitlement I will call out, whilst pursuing a path that allows me to maintain a clear conscience. That’s the best I can do.
I’m going to be introducing tiered membership systems and seminars you can purchase and stream online.
I’ll try to keep these reasonably priced, without compromising on my own needs and worth.
I have to think about this stuff. I can’t afford to think about what I want in a vacuum and expect others to match those prices. Life isn’t just about us.
So this process is the best I can do. And hope a fair balance is struck. And the right people are drawn to work with someone who works in this way xoxo
